Fishing Report – Early Season Outlook
For those who know me, winter isn't exactly my favorite time of year. However, there’s something undeniably special about standing in the river as a heavy snowfall settles around you, bringing a unique calm and peace to the experience.
After several recent storms, the snowpack is looking solid, setting us up for excellent water levels as we head into steelhead season. If conditions hold, we should have good floatable flows not only for steelhead but also through smallmouth season and into early trout season.
Lately, temperatures have ranged from moderate to downright cold, and the most effective flies on the river have been small stoneflies in brown and black, tiny caddis patterns, and midges. The key right now is to get them down low and let them drift slow.
The good news? The weather is warming up, and we’re already seeing some river sections start to open. It won’t be long before the water is fully open and the season kicks off in full force. Stay tuned and get ready—spring fishing is just around the corner!
